Abstract

This study will probe into the process and the result of the search for the meaning of life in SIDDHARTHA. Using the holistic approach, the researcher answers the following questions: 1. What is the socio-cultural milieu that shed light on the meaning of life as pursued by Siddhartha? 2. How did the author, Heman Hesse, integrate the various elements of the novel-- the setting, the plot, character, theme and symbol-- into the total framework to expound on the process of searching for the meaning of life.
