Item The influence of American TV in enhancing English communication(2018-05) Lee, EunsikWatching series in English is one of the venues students are exposed to the nuances of the language. This paper explores how watching series influences listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. This research aimed to determine the influence of watching American TV series in enhancing listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Specifically, this sough to answer the following: 1. Hoe frequent to the learners use English in communication? 2. How frequent do the learners watch American TV series? 3. What is the level on influence of American TV series along: a. Speaking b. Writing c. Reading d. listening? This study is a quantitative research, specifically a descriptive-evaluative research. this method is utilized for the reason that the research is based primarily questionnaire and interview on the respondents to gather data regarding the influence on American TV series along speaking, writing, reading and listening in enhancing the use of English in communication. The respondents of this study were thirty (30) Korean students of Pines International Academy (PIA) bridging campus, Cooyeesan Mall, Naguillian Road, Baguio City. The study used questionnaire as the main tool in gathering information from the respondents to elicit data on the influence on American TV in enhancing communication. The data gathered through the questionnaire were tabulated and computed using the general weighted were tabulated and computed using the general weighted mean to identify how frequent the Korean students use English communication and how frequent they watch the influence on American TV series, and determining the level of influence of series, TV series in the enhancement of using English in communication along speaking, writing, reading and listening. The following are the major findings of the study: 1. The Korean learners at PIA sometimes use English in their communication. 2. The Korean learners sometimes watch American TV series. 3. The Korean learners generally considered the American TV series as slightly influential in enhancing the use of English in their communication. In light of the findings of the study, the following are the conclusions. 1. The Korean learners occasionally use English in their daily interaction. 2. The Korean irregularly watches the influence on American TV shoes. 3. The American TV shows are somewhat instrumental in the developing the communication of the Korean students in the Philippine International Academy. In relation with the findings and conclusions of this research, the following are recommended: 1. The Korean learners have to constantly and regularly use English as their medium of communication everytime they interact with anyone not only when they are at PIA but also anywhere they go. 2. The Korean learners have to assess the American TV shows and behave to watch those that may help them develop their vocabulary and most importantly enhancing the use of English in their communication. They also have to prioritize those TV shows that are educational by considering the reviews or feedbacks of experts and viewers. 3. The Philippine International Academy has to screen and suggest TV shows that are meaningful and contributor to the enhancement of the English communication of their foreign learners particularly in developing their speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills.
