Abstract

This research attempted to show the religious practices and beliefs of the i-Sagada from birth until death. It attempted to reveal how the i-Sagada is disciplined through religious rituals and beliefs. It also aimed to show that customs and traditions bind a tribe together, and that without such customs and traditions, Sagada would not be as peaceful as it is now. The study is an attempt to preserve in writing the customs and beliefs of the people of Sagada which to a great extent are vanishing. It has historical, anthropological as well as education values. Its historical importance lies in its attempt to trace the origin of such customs. Anthropologically, it is important because it preserves in writing such practices and beliefs. However, it is most important in the educational field because it can be a rich and authentic resource material on the culture of the Sagada people in the schools and in other entities of learning and research. This study further shows the changes that have taken place in Sagada customs and traditions as a result if Western influence and Christian education.
